Great Plains Ag Enhances Field Cultivators for Higher-Speed Performance

SALINA, Kan. – Working to address the needs of today’s conventional tillage producers, Great Plains Ag has enhanced its tried-and-true field cultivator with a new frame design, new shank system, and new finishing attachments. The new CT8400 and CT8410 Field Cultivators offer greater leveling, weed control, and residue management – now at faster operating speeds.

Available in 24′ to 51′ working widths, the new field cultivators are offered with two hitch options: the CT8400 features a constant-level hitch for operation on flat ground and open fields and the CT8410 is a floating hitch model for rougher terrain or fields with lots of variation. Both are ready to order for the 2025 season.

Tanner Townley, Great Plains Design Engineer, said, “The floating hitch model offers gauge wheels across the front, including pivoting gauge wheels on the wings, and a patented rocking bolster on the center frame. These features allow the unit to flex while maintaining the same depth, for a uniform, level seedbed – all the way across the machine. Both the constant-level and floating hitch models have walking tandems on the back tires for a consistent performance.”

The CT8400 and CT8410 Field Cultivators have undergone a new frame design to enhance unit strength and flexibility, including new over/under support tubes. Townley said, “This new design allows the field cultivator to run at higher operating speeds from 8-10 mph.” Additionally, the new models offer a more robust shank system with 210 lbs. of trip force for increased durability and stability at higher operating speeds. Optional K-flex spring steel shank mounts with 185 lbs. of trip force are also available for lighter soils or shallower tillage.

Great Plains Field Cultivators use a Max-Mix shank pattern for uniform fertilizer and residue distribution. With wider shank spacings and a generous underframe clearance, residue flows more freely, avoiding windrowing. Other features include single point depth control for easy adjustments, hydraulic wing latches for transport, and a variety of finishing options for a customized finish.

For operators seeking a more intuitive machine, the new CT8400/8410 models are compatible with the Great Plains Implement Command® System (ICS). Doug Jennings, Great Plains Tillage & Planter Product Manager, said, “We continue to look for opportunities to add the Implement Command System as an option to help producers become more efficient and maximize control from the cab. This option is available on all sizes and allows producers to control depth and down pressure at their fingertips.”

For conventional tillage producers who require both durability and performance, Great Plains Field Cultivators deliver exceptional seedbeds using today’s practical technology. To learn more about the new Great Plains CT8400/8410 Field Cultivators, visit www.GreatPlainsAg.com.
