New TED Talk ‘Talks’ Regenerative Ag

NEW YORK — Gabe Brown has been on a mission to share the good news in healthy soil for decades. And since co-founding the non-profit Soil Health Academy (SHA) in 2017, Brown has travelled the globe teaching other farmers and ranchers the life-promoting principles of regenerative agriculture.

His book, Dirt to Soil, has been translated into nine languages and is a seminal work in the soil health movement, inspiring thousands of farmers and ranchers to transition from chemically intensive conventional practices to lower-input, profit-improving regenerative agricultural practices.

Thanks to his recent TED Talk in New York City, Brown’s inspirational message regarding the basics and benefits of soil health-improving regenerative agriculture is now reaching a new audience of consumers throughout the world.

“I’m confident the practical, relevant and poignant messages in Gabe’s 12-minute TED Talk will inspire consumers and policy makers to learn more about how our health and our planet’s health is connected to our living and life-giving soil,” said Soil Health Academy President Kim Barmann.

Barmann said she also hopes interest in Brown’s TED Talk will prompt viewers to watch the recently released pilot episode of Destination Regeneration, a proposed docuseries from SHA showcasing genuine heroes of the heartland who are determined to regenerate their soil, farms, food, families and communities.

“Through this proposed series we want to demonstrate how regenerative farming and ranching principles can be applied in different geographic regions and cultures—but to also be honest in presenting the real challenges associated with transitioning from conventional to regenerative agricultural practices,” she said. “The pilot episode prominently features Gabe and demonstrates how soil health is directly related to human health.”

During his TED Talk, Gabe shares his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, and why his exposure to farm chemicals, before converting to regenerative farming, is the likely cause.

“SHA is seeking a visionary business or philanthropic partner to fund an additional nine episodes in the series,” Barmann said. “There are simply too many compelling stories to be told in a one-and-done feature-length documentary. Action starts with awareness, and I believe Destination Regeneration will help SHA in its core mission and amplify Gabe’s message that healthy life above ground begins with healthy life below ground.”
